Speculations abound, but in fact it is hardly possible to know the exact years of birth and death of JESUS. Most scientists are inclined to accept that Jesus died under Pontius Pilate, prefect of Judaea (AD 26-36). There is no knowledge of direct historical sources about the historical person of Jesus – one of many Jesus’s at that time. The philosopher Philo Judaeus, a contemporary of Jesus who was very familiar with the situation in Jerusalem, does not mention him. The historian Flavius Josephus says that in 62 Jacob, the brother of Jesus who is called the Christ, was executed. Tacitus and Suetonius : the founder of the Christians, a certain Christos or Chrestos, was executed under Pontius Pilate. The Gospels are dated no older than c70 and were not written by eye witnesses (i.e. people who knew Jesus themselves) : these anonymous writings, (attributed to Mark, Matthew, and John) rather reflect the ideas of many local religious communities at that time. The Gospel according to Luke was probably written by a certain Luke, who possibly was a companion of Paul. One could say that Paul is the "Origin of christianity", not Jesus. The authenticity of the following letters of Paul is strongly disputed by modern exegesis : Efesians, Colossians, Thessalonians 2 (c100). The letter of Paul to the Hebrews is definitely not from Paul.
